Yellow Fever Vaccination countries

0

Yellow fever disease has been detected mainly in certain areas of Central Africa and Northern Region of South America.

African countries
-----------------
ANGOLA, BARKINAL FAED, BENIN, BURINDI, CAMEROON, CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC, CHAD, COTE D'LVOIRE, CONGO, DEMOCRITIC REPUBIC OF CONGO, EQUATORIAL GUINEA, ETHOPIA,  GABON, GAMBIA, GHANA, GUINEA, GUINEA BISSAU, KENYA, LIBERIA, MALI, MAURITANIA,  NIGAR, NIGERIA, RAWANDA, SAO TOME PRICIPE, SENEGAL, SOMALIA, SUDAN, TOGO, UNITED REPUBLIC OF TANZANIA, UGANDA.

South American countries
------------------------
BOLIVIA, BRAZIL, COLMBIA, ECUADOR, FRENCH GUIANA, GAYANA, PANAMA, PERU, SURINAM, VENEZUELA.

This however does not mean that you do not need the Yellow Fever Vaccination if you are not traveling to these countries. Today most Country have made it mandatory to have the Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate prior entering their territory. This is done because there may be chances of getting infected by a passenger already suffering from yellow fever at international airports or international flights. Thus you need to check carefully the travel documents required by various countries. Again different countries have different regulation for international passengers without a yellow fever vaccination certificate. India for example states (www.immigrationindia.nic.in/Health_regulation2.htm) :

" For entry into India:-
Any person, Foreigner or Indian, (excluding infants below six months) arriving by air or sea without a vaccination certificate of yellow fever will be kept in quarantine isolation for a period up to 6 days if :

>> He arrives in India within 6 days of departure/transit from a yellow fever endemic area.
>> Has come on a ship which has started from or transited at any port in a yellow fever endemic country within 30 days of its arrival in India provided such ship has not been disinfected in accordance with the procedure laid down by WHO."

Things to Carry for Yellow Fever Vaccination

1

Since the certificate is accepted internationally you will need to bring your original travel document e.g. your original passport.

Some yellow fever vaccination centre at airport may require you to get your traveling flight tickets too.

It is advisable to confirm with the yellow fever vaccination centre for the documents required during booking of appointment for yellow fever vaccination. Most centres require you to book prior appointment for yellow fever vaccination.

While not mandatory but personal experience suggests to bring a pen for signature and a bottle of drinking water too !

Where can I get Yellow Fever Vaccination ?

0

As told before yellow fever vaccination centre has to be approved by MINISTRY OF HEALTH (Government of India) in order to ensure the quality and safety of the procedures and materials employed. While I mailed both WHO and Ministry of health Department for the details, but both never replied and so I collected the details of all yellow fever vaccination centre in India from the Internet. The Procedures may vary and your reply/experience is always welcome. I am detailing the same as separate comments.

I am specifically avoiding any private centre/doctor details as Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate issued by them may not be accepted internationally, while government approved centres are ! Please note however that the procedure to get yellow fever vaccination in any government approved centre is quite cumbersome and frustrating. Be patient during the process, its matter of a day in 10 years ! So do carry your headphones and listen to favorite songs during the long tiring que for yellow fever vaccination.

Best way to beat the queue and the haphazard way of Yellow Fever Vaccination in MMD Mumbai :
    08291871016 / 07303580524
Call this guy. I don't know his name but he is the guy who serves Sugarcane Juice right outside MMD Mumbai. Call him one day before and get your name in the queue list. Pay him maybe 200. Bargain-able. Best way, because, according to this guy, the queue is formed either on the midnight of the previous day or early morning of the same day. I needed it real quick (my flight 3 days later) and this guy did it for me in a day.

Yellow Fever Vaccination at Kolkata Marine House
Last month renewed my Yellow Fever Vaccination certificate at Kolkata Marine house.

    Few points worth sharing :

    1. Marine House, Kolkata does not book appointment by Telephone
    2. Innoculation done only on Mon / Wed & Fri
    3. Since the gate opens only by 09:00 try to be there by that time.
    4. People write their name in a blank page for reference.
    5. Room opens at 12:30 PM & assistant will take that page (list of Candidates)
    6. You are required to bring 2 copies(xerox) of Passport (1st+Last Page)
    7. Mariners additionally required to bring 2 copies(xerox) of CDC (1st+Address Page)
    8. You will be given a form to fill your details.
    9. Fees of Rs 300 is to be paid in a room nearby (shown by assistant)
    10. Yellow fever vaccine is given in batches of 10.
    11. You may be asked to return if you do not fall in group of 10.
    12. A soft spoken lady Doctor will be giving YF vaccination.
    13. Wear half sleeves shirt for easier injection in arm.
    14. After injection you will be asked to wait for an hour and
    15. After an hour you will be given Yellow fever Certificate.

My personal experience was that getting vaccination is more of luck. I reached there by 10:55 AM and was at 17th number. That day 23 people came and last 3 were returned. While you can come late and get saved (if more people come and complete 10 people group), it is still advisable to reach early. Best of luck for your Yellow Fever vaccination at Kolkata.

Best is to come on Wednesday as monday is flooded. Better to take room around marine club and and reach Chappels at around 9:00. It would be better if you get a taxi, because MMD is long way down the main road.
