OILER / WIPER

Merchant Navy Rank "Oiler" or Motorman (including Wiper) belongs to the Engine department of merchant ship and is  responsible to the Second Engineer/1st Assistant Engineer for:

1. Assisting the engine room watch keepers/UMS duty engineers as required, in particular with regard to the operation of the plant (subject to Wiper/Oiler being duly certified)
   
2. Assisting with the maintenance of all machinery, technical equipment, plant etc., as instructed by an Engineer Officer.
   
3. General cleaning, housekeeping duties as instructed by an Engineer Officer.
   
4. The adoption of safe working practices.
   
5. Assisting in mooring operations as required.
   
6. Any other duties assigned to him by the Chief Engineer and Second Engineer/1st Assistant Engineer as appropriate.
