Merchant Navy Rank "2nd Cook" belongs to the Galley department of merchant ship and is responsible to the Chief Cook for:

1. Assisting in the preparation of food and meals
   
2. Keeping the galley, stores and provision rooms clean and hygienic at all times
   
3. Any other matters relating to the storing, handling and preparation of food as required by the Chief Cook.
   
4. Adoption of safe working practices
