GENERAL SERVICE

Merchant Navy Rank "General Service" (GS) or Messman belongs to the Galley department of merchant ship and is responsible to the Chief Cook for:

1. Serving meals in the mess rooms
   
2. Washing dishes with due regard to health regulations and hygiene
   
3. House keeping of officers cabin
   
4. Assisting in the preparation of food and meals as necessary
   
5. Cleaning mess rooms and pantries with due regards to health and hygiene
   
6. Any other cleaning duties as required by the Chief Cook.
   
7. Adoption of safe working practices.
