Joining Merchant Navy after Law

hello!
i wanted to know if its possible to join merchant navy after or while doing law? as in would there be any requirement where  a legal background will be useful?

  Your legal background will not be useful while joining Merchant Navy, rather the basic requirement is only 12th pass here for officer training.
  
  Maritime law is a separate field and has nothing much to do with sailing or joining Merchant Navy. You can complete your law and go for higher studies in Maritime Law, you do not need to join Merchant Navy for that.

  well as you said that the basic requirement is 12th pass then can i know what are the apt courses to start with? i heard this one course 'stcw' course is the first one to start with! is that so? could you please throw some more light on it, please?! also tell me some other courses to start off with. thank you.

  "STCW" courses is not one course but a set of basic courses which everyone needs to do including :
  EFA - Elementary first aid
  FPFF - Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting
  PST - Personal Survival Technique
  PSSR - Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities
  
  STCW courses are required to be done after pre-sea courses e.g. courses done for joining Merchant Navy.

  `thank you so much! i referred to the given site. i did get some help and will contact the institutions accordingly.. well i have one last doubt/question, do all maritime colleges provide these courses?, as colleges that provide those certain courses has not been mentioned...
  also could you tell how the college International Maritime Institute, located in Greater Noida is to pursue a course? thank you.

  I understand the page does not link to the Marine Colleges conducting the maritime course but, once you have zeroed down to the course you want to do, you can find the college at www.jahajee.com/marine-course/ I will be linking them soon !
  
  As for IMI, please check if people have graded that college and verify personally the percentage of placed cadets. Wish you all the best.
