Types of Visa in UK ?

Of the various types of Visa in UK, VISA for spouse of Maritime people is "General Visitor Visa" e.g. the wife of a mariner needs to apply for General Visitor UK Visa. Interestingly my Friend's wife too had the UK Visa of 6 month duration but it does not have any UK Visa type clearly mentioned on it. UK Visa granted mentions "Type of Visa : C" which does not appear in the options while filliing the UK Visa Application form.
