2nd mates after NCV Cadets
2nd mates after NCV Cadets
I am an NCV cadet, just completed my 18 months sea service with DLP.
I would like to know if it is possible for me to give exams in london for Merchant Navy Rank 2nd mates directly. I am a science stream student with Physics, Chemistry & Maths.
Please suggest me the shortest way to appear for 2nd mates. In India I need to do functions+modular courses ... then after getting my COC I need to sail for 6 months and then do F.G 2nd mate function then I can appear for my 2nd mate exam. Its a long journey.
So please guys help me to know whats the shortest way to appear for 2nd mates.

0 I am joining Ship today checked your mail in rush ....Sorry but I have no knowledge of Uk exam procedure and would suggest you to go for Indian system only.
While it might be long but as time passes and you get attached with family you will want to stay more in India rather than going to UK for Long.......and Indian system might be longer but have a prescribed format .....do not worry for 2nd mate exams, look it this way that you are with your family, friends and parents.
Hope someone with UK Exam experience might help you better and request if you know anything, please share with others ....Best Of Luck - X
0 very well said , I was planning of going to UK but things made me do it here in India as I was an Able seaman.
I also had things in mind , parents friends and will clear aaram se ! Guess what cleared writtens in the first attempt, finished with 2nd mate orals too .
India is good. Only thing stresses you out is the mmd chakkar . - X
1 I did my ncv cadetship from sci,i suggest u go for u.k coc-contact springdale in mumbai or amti in gurgaon for second mates in U.K. u need atleast 13 lakhs rupees to show in ur bank account..u can recover 02-05 lakhs from doing part time jobs.but before applying complete 36 months of seatime, do some advance courses in india itself plus uk gmdss and after getiing U.K coc get endorsement from indian mmd on it and u will be able to sail on indian flag vessels
