Difference between approved and non approved ECDIS ?

As far as definition goes an ECDIS is a APPROVED system capable of displaying VECTOR CHARTS APPROVED/ISSUED By a recognised hydrographic office.
However in layman terms a non approved ECDIS is one which does not conform to the requirements of IMO (most of the seafarers call any electronic chart display system as ECDIS however most of them are referring to Raster chart display system or Vector chart display systems issued by non recognised parties like Transas or C-Map)
