Explain MTD AND MTO ?

Multimodal transport document means a negotiable or non negotiable evidencing a multimodal transport contract which can be replaced by electronic data exchange messages permitted by applicable law.
MTD plays same role as a BOL in sea carriage.

Multimodal transport operator is a person who
1. concludes a mutimodal transport contract on his own behalf or through another person acting on his behalf
2.acts as a principal, not as an agent of either the consignor, consignee or the carrier, participating in the multimodal transport, and who assumes the responsibility for the performance of the said contract
3. and he is registered as MTO
