due to ekman movement and earths corriolis force the western side current is stronger than eastern side current anywhere else also

gulf stream is a continuation of equatorial current. due to the shape of landmass of the gulf of mexico, and the florida coast, the gulf stream is stronger than the currents of the east-atlantic. the likes of canary currents and all.
