Q. 2011) What is CAS (condition assessement scheme) ?
X
CONDITON ASSESMENT SCHEME
ƒÞ Operation of oil tankers of certain specified categories beyond the specified date is permitted, subject to compliance with the CAS.
ƒÞ Procedure for preparation, conduct of survey, reporting and certification are given in the amendment 2001 to MARPOL 73/78.
ƒÞ CAS involves enhanced surveys along with thickness measurement of various hull members.
ƒÞ CAS surveys shall be carried out concurrently with intermediate or renewal surveys when the enhanced survey programme is applicable as per SOLAS chapter XI.
ƒÞ The surveys have to be carried out by a recognised organisation (RO), which is authorized by the administration.
ƒÞ Thickness measurement (TM) firm is a qualified company certified by the RO.
ƒÞ Not less than two qualified exclusive surveyors of the RO shall carry out the survey.
ƒÞ The surveyor must have experience of conducting renewal surveys and must undergo appropriate training and familiarization programme.
ƒÞ Thickness measurement shall be carried out by the certified TM firm in the presence of the surveyor of the RO.
ƒÞ CAS applies to surveys of hull structure in way of cargo tanks, pump room, cofferdams, pipe tunnels, void spaces within the cargo area and all ballast tanks including the fore peak and aft peak tanks.
ƒÞ In addition to overall surveys of the above spaces, it also includes close up surveys of structural member such as bulkheads, web frames, deck transverses, bottom transverses and all connected structural members.
ƒÞ Proper access must be provided for the close-up survey.
ƒÞ Tank coatings and corrosion protection system shall be inspected. Good coating need not be removed.
ƒÞ Thickness measurement shall be carried out on all deck plates, bottom plates, three transverse sections including at least one in way of a ballast tank, structural subject to close-up surveys, suspect areas, wind and water strakes, internals of fore peak and aft peak tanks and exposed superstructure decks
Q. 2012) Ror cards- aground v / l
XQ. 2013) What is type 1 , type2 , type 3 chemical tankers ? which one is having stringent criteria ?
XIMO Ship Type 1
is a chemical tanker intended for the transportation of products considered to present the greatest overall hazard. The quantity of cargo required to be carried in a Type 1 ship should not exceed 1,250 m3 in any one tank
IMO Ship Type 2
is intended to transport products with appreciably severe environmental and safety hazards which require significant preventive measures to preclude escape of such cargo. The quantity of cargo required to be carried in a Type 2 ship should not exceed 3000 m3 in any one tank
IMO Ship Type 3
is a chemical tanker intended to transport products with sufficiently severe environmental and safety hazards. These products require a moderate degree of containment to increase survival capability in a damaged condition. There is no filling restriction for chemicals assigned to Ship Type 3
Cargo Tank Location
2.6.1 Cargo tanks shall be located at the following distances inboard:
Type 1 ships: from the side shell plating, not less than the transverse extent of damage specified in 2.5.1.1.2, (B/5 or 11.5m whichever is less), and from the moulded line of the bottom shell plating at centerline, not less than the vertical extent of damage specified in 2.5.1.2.3, (B/15 or 6 m whichever is less), and nowhere less than 760 mm from the shell plating. This requirement does not apply to the tanks for diluted slops arising from tank washing.
.2 Type 2 ships: from the moulded line of the bottom shell plating at centerline, not less than the vertical extent of damage specified in 2.5.1.2.3, (B/15 or 6 m whichever is less), and nowhere less than 760 mm from the shell plating. This requirement does not apply to the tanks for diluted slops arising from tank washing.
.3 Type 3 ships: no requirement"
Q. 2014) Situation - you see a red lights on your port bow , ships heading is 000(t) , what could be the heading of target vessel ?
XQ. 2015) What are the test for container ? what is racking stress ?
XContainer placed on four supports located exactly on the four bottom corner castings. Now the so mentioned weight is applied to rack it transversely (i.e., the bottom will be fixed and only the top part will be shifted longitudinally bending the corner castings and vertical members) and check for its integrity. The value mentioned in the safety approval plate is that for the transverse test and not for the longitudinal. Hope i'm right!!! Ref- CSC annex-2
Q. 2016) What is triparty agreement ?
XQ. 2017) Ror cards- NUC vessel
XQ. 2018) What is igc code ? type of gas carrier as per igc code ?
XThe International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC Code) applies to gas carriers constructed on or after1 July 1986. Gas carriers constructed before that date should comply with the requirements of the Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk or the Code for Existing Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk.
Gas carriers are classified into three main types based on the hazardous nature of cargo:
1G : designed for most hazardous cargo
2G & 2PG: designed for lesser degree of hazard (mostly LPG and LNG)
3G : designed for least degree of hazard
Q. 2019) What is dgps.
Xdifferential GPS - shore stations are equiped with DGPS programme. they provide ships with small correction to the ship's position that may be necessary to get the exact position. DGPS is nothing but an additional correction to the position obtained by GPS.
