                UNCLOS 1
                In 1956, the United Nations held its first Conference on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS I) at Geneva, Switzerland. UNCLOS I resulted in four treaties concluded in 1958:
                %u2022 Convention on the Territorial Sea and Contiguous Zone, entry into force: 10 September 1964
                %u2022 Convention on the Continental Shelf, entry into force: 10 June 1964
                %u2022 Convention on the High Seas, entry into force: 30 September 1962
                %u2022 Convention on Fishing and Conservation of Living Resources of the High Seas, entry into force: 20 March 1966
                Although UNCLOS I was considered a success, it left open the important issue of breadth of territorial waters.

                Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Maritime Navigation, 1988

                Adoption: 10 March 1988
                Entry into force: 1 March 1992

                The main purpose of the convention is to ensure that appropriate action is taken against persons committing unlawful acts against ships. These include:
                %u2022 the seizure of ships by force;
                %u2022 acts of violence against persons on board ships; and
                %u2022  the placing of devices on board a ship which are likely to destroy or damage it.
                ISPS
                The International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) is a comprehensive set of measures to enhance the security of ships and port facilities, developed in response to the perceived threats to ships and port facilities in the wake of the 9/11 attacks in the United States. The ISPS Code is implemented through chapter XI-2 Special measures to enhance maritime security in the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974. The Code has two parts, one mandatory and one recommendatory
