Can any one tell me what is SSTP course for GP RATING & is this course only available for deck crew or engine side also ?

1 SSTP or Shipboard structured Training program is like a correspondence course in which you have to complete tasks laid down in the course material onboard. Mentioned tasks are to be sent to the Course provider in stipulated time after completing. Successful completion gives them exemption from sea-time for higher examination.
SSTP is required by various Merchant Navy ranks including Deck Cadets who did DNS course and some Trainee Marine engineers (TAR book).
I am unaware about SSTP required after GP rating course ! Recently DG Shipping stopped promotion of Deck crew to officers to control job shortage. I may be wrong but Indian Maritime system do not allow rating promotion to officers and that is why GP Ratings go for examination in UK where it is allowed. Perhaps SSTP may be required by them of which I am unaware. While I will try to update this post with any information I could, please update on your side too to help other mariners.
