1. Admiralty Notice No.4 in the Annual Summary of Notices to Mariners contains much useful information on helicopter operations with merchant ships, including routine use of helicopters and use of helicopters for rescue and medical evacuation. A Helicopter Operations – Ship borne Safety Check List is provided in Appendix G of Notice No.4.
2.The IAMSAR Manual, Volume III, Section 2 (pages 2-21 to 2-30) similarly contains a great deal of information on helicopter operations, with diagrams. In case of medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) by helicopter, Section 4, page 4-8 should be consulted. MEDICO message information as in H04c.3 may need to be prepared and given beforehand. A Shipboard Safety Check List is at page 4-10.
3. The Ship Captain’s Medical Guide, Chapter 13 (External Assistance) has sections on Radio medical advice and MEDEVAC service by helicopter.
