Xpivot point is that point about which the vessel turns. while going ahead, pivot point shifts 1/4th the length of the vessel from fwd. after gaining considerable headway, the point shifts to 1/3rd of the length from fwd. same happens during sternway. in a turning circle the pivot point is the joining of the ships fore and aft line ant the tangent to the circle.
